Ist ja nett, aber wer mag das noch so machen?

MACHINE KNIT SOCKS WITH HANDKNITTED-LIKE HEEL

To knit socks on the knitting machine is not difficult and they can be knitted quite fast after a little practice. However, they don't look quite like the ones that grandma used to make. But it is possible to knit the heel on the knitting machine the way we know it from handknitting.

Follow these instructions:

Cast on 64 stitches for 2x2 rib over center 64 needles. Knit approximately 50 rows. Transfer ribber stitches to main bed. Drop ribber bed.

Change to main tension. Knit 10 rows. Take the right half of the stitch (1-32 right of 0) off on a stitchholder or scrap yarn. 32 stitches remain -- knit 20 rows.

On the carriage side, from the last row knitted, unravel the first 9 stitches and scrap those off on waste yarn. On the other side of knitting also scrap off 9 stitches; 14 stitches (10-23 left of 0 remain). Hang a claw weight under these stitches.

*On the carriage side, take the first scrapped off stitch (the one next to the needles in work position) and hang onto needle 10 (left of 0) (=2 stitches on needle). Knit 1 row.

Repeat from * on other side. Knit 1 row. Repeat this until all 9 stitches on scrap yarn have been rehung.

On each side of knitting, pick up 9 stitches from the edge of the 20 rows knitted for the heel. Since the yarn is now inside your knitting, knit the stitch on the right by hand.

Push ribber up 1 step. Hang the 32 stitches from the stitchholder (or scrapped off earlier) onto ribber needles. (This takes a little practice).

Set machine for circular knitting. Leave claw weight in heel. Depending on size, knit approximately 50 rounds.

For the toe, use your 2 or 3 prong transfer tool, take off 2 stitches and move them over 1 needle, each side, both beds. Knit 2 rounds. Repeat until 16 stitches remain on each bed.

Now decrease 2 stitches each side, both beds, knit 2 rounds. Decrease 2 stitches each side, both beds and knit 1 round.

Take off on waste yarn. Close toe, using Kitchener stitch.

Please remember, this is a sample. You may want to make slight changes on your socks, and you will have to work out your number of rows between heel and toe.
